Planning your trip from India

Georgia travel insurance for travellers from India

Check your existing policy, plan the right cover for a holiday or a longer stay, and understand GPI activation, payment and policy delivery before travelling to Georgia.

Georgia travel insurance for travellers from India

Start with your itinerary and any insurance you already hold. A short holiday, a university stay and a trip from a Gulf country are different situations. Check the policy against your actual Georgia visit before deciding whether to buy additional cover.

Before you buy

  • Check whether your Indian or employer policy includes Georgia.
  • Separate tourist cover from insurance needed for a longer stay.
  • Use the arrival and departure dates for Georgia, including overnight flights.

Visit Georgia sells GPI policies. This guide explains the requirements and product; the issued policy and insurer terms determine coverage.

A holiday and a longer stay need different checks

For a short visit, start with emergency medical cover for your travel dates. If you are moving, studying or expecting regular treatment, compare longer-term medical insurance separately. A tourist policy should not be described as comprehensive routine healthcare.

This distinction also matters if you live outside India. An Indian passport, a Gulf residence permit and a flight departing from Dubai describe different aspects of your trip; none tells us what your existing insurance covers.

Check an Indian or employer policy before buying another

Ask your insurer for the schedule and wording, not just a membership card. Confirm that Georgia is included, that every traveller is insured and that the dates cover the stay. If insurance is a credit-card benefit, ask whether activation or purchasing the tickets with that card is required.

  • Find the territorial scope and the names of the insured travellers.
  • Check the medical and accident benefits, limits and exclusions.
  • Obtain the document you can actually carry on your trip.
  • If the existing policy meets your needs and the entry requirements, an additional policy for the same purpose may be unnecessary.

The Georgian tourist insurance requirement

Since 1 January 2026, incoming tourists generally need health and accident insurance, subject to specific legal exemptions. The minimum insured amount is GEL 30,000, covering the whole stay. The policy may be electronic or on paper and must be available in English or Georgian.

Insurance is not a visa or a promise of admission. Check immigration conditions through Georgia’s official consular services for your own circumstances.

What to check in GPIH-A

Visit Georgia offers GPIH-A with an overall insured amount of GEL 100,000 and a GEL 100 deductible. Individual services have their own limits. Read the policy terms for exclusions, existing conditions, dangerous activities and age restrictions.

Above age 75, the contract restricts certain benefits to consequences of accidents. For a traveller aged exactly 75, ask GPI to clarify the boundary: the wording in the age clause and coverage table differs. Do not buy on the assumption that illness benefits are identical at every age.

Connecting flights and the start of cover

Use your Georgia entry and departure dates. For an overnight flight or a connection through another country, check the calendar date of arrival. Insurance for Georgia does not automatically cover the rest of a multi-country journey.

For GPI purchased before entry, cover starts at the border crossing within the policy dates. If purchased while already in Georgia, it starts 24 hours after purchase, within those dates. Buying after an illness or accident does not make that earlier event insured.

Payment from India and delivery of the PDF

Select a duration and age group, enter each traveller’s details and review the calculated amount. Use the payment options shown at checkout. Check the final currency and amount; if you use an INR-funded card, your issuer can explain conversion and fees. We do not promise UPI availability.

Use an email address you can access while travelling. After payment, wait for the policy to be issued and check its names, passport details and dates. If payment was debited but the PDF has not arrived, check the order status and spam folder, then contact Visit Georgia with the order number. Do not pay twice to resolve a delivery delay.

Getting help during your visit

Contact GPI on +995 32 2 505 111 and follow the insurer’s instructions when arranging care. For a life-threatening emergency, call 112. Keep medical reports, invoices and payment receipts.

A familiar language on the website does not guarantee the same language at a clinic. Ask about communication needs before buying, and save your policy offline.

Questions from Indian travellers

Can I use travel insurance bought in India?

A policy from an authorised foreign insurer can meet Georgia’s requirement. Check the territory, insured risks, amount, dates and document language rather than assuming a local Georgian policy is always necessary.

Does an insurance policy guarantee entry or a visa?

No. Insurance and immigration eligibility are separate. Check the official consular requirements for your passport, residence status and purpose of travel.

Is this tourist policy enough for studying in Georgia?

Do not assume so. Ask your university and relevant authorities what cover they require, and compare routine care, duration and exclusions separately. This guide does not establish compliance with student or residence requirements.

Can I rely on UPI or an INR price?

Use only the payment methods actually offered at checkout. Do not assume UPI is available or that the final charge is in INR. Your card issuer can explain currency conversion and any charges.
