Start by checking the insurance you already have. If it does not cover your trip to Georgia on the required terms, compare suitable travel policies before departure. Gulf residence and passport nationality are different things; check entry eligibility separately from insurance.
Before choosing a new policy
- Does your existing policy include Georgia and every day of your trip?
- Is each family member named among the insured travellers?
- Is the insurance document available in English or Georgian?
Visit Georgia offers GPI policies for purchase. This guide explains requirements and options; your policy and the insurer's terms determine the scope of cover.
Who is this guide for?
This guide is for Arabic-speaking travellers planning a tourist visit to Georgia from the Gulf, whether citizens or residents. It does not assume that everyone living in the UAE or Saudi Arabia has the same nationality or insurance.
Resolve two separate questions: do your passport and residence status meet the entry requirements, and does your insurance cover the trip? Buying insurance does not provide a visa or guarantee entry.
Check employer or bank-card insurance first
You may have insurance through your employer or as a bank-card benefit. Ask for the overseas coverage terms and the document you can present while travelling. Do not rely on the plan's name or the word ‘international’ alone.
- Check that Georgia is named or included in the covered territory.
- Ask whether the benefit requires paying for flights with that card or activating cover in advance.
- Check the names of family members: employee insurance does not automatically establish cover for a spouse or children.
- If your existing policy is suitable, you may not need an additional policy for the same purpose.
The official requirements at a glance
Since 1 January 2026, tourists entering Georgia have been subject to a health and accident insurance requirement, with specific legal exemptions. The minimum insured amount is GEL 30,000. The policy must cover the entire stay and can be presented on paper or electronically, in English or Georgian.
These are general requirements, not a complete list of your individual entry conditions. Consult the official source if you have a special status or a visa question.
What are you choosing when you buy GPI?
Visit Georgia offers the GPIH-A programme with a total insured amount of GEL 100,000 and a GEL 100 deductible. Individual services have their own limits and conditions; the overall amount is not a budget for any treatment you choose.
Read the exclusions for pre-existing conditions, pregnancy and hazardous activities, and do not assume routine treatment is included. Above age 75, the terms restrict some benefits to the consequences of accidents. If you are exactly 75, ask GPI for clarification because the age boundary is worded differently in the contract text and table.
Coordinate family travel dates and the start of cover
Use your dates of entry into and departure from Georgia, not just the date you leave home. For an overnight flight, check the arrival day on your booking. Enter each traveller's details as they appear in their passport, including children.
When you buy GPI before entry, cover starts on crossing the border, within the policy dates. Buying from inside Georgia involves a 24-hour waiting period. Receiving a PDF does not remove the wait, and events before cover starts are not covered.
Price, payment and receiving your policy
Go to prices, choose the duration and age, then check the total after entering all travellers' details. Review the currency of the final amount and the payment method shown in the form. If your card uses another currency, check conversion and fees with the issuing bank; we do not guarantee a fixed price in riyals or dirhams.
After payment, wait for the policy to be issued and check your email and spam folder. If you have been charged but have not received the policy, do not pay again; check the order status and contact Visit Georgia with the order number. Save the PDF on your phone before departure.
If you need a doctor in Georgia
Call GPI assistance on +995 32 2 505 111 and follow the insurer's instructions before treatment whenever possible. In a life-threatening emergency, call 112. Keep medical reports, invoices and proof of payment.
Ask about the language of assistance if you need Arabic. An Arabic website does not mean that every assistance agent or doctor speaks Arabic.
Questions from Gulf travellers
Is the health insurance card I use at home enough?
The card alone usually does not explain cover outside your country of residence. Ask the insurer for a document confirming cover in Georgia, including dates, insured risks and limits, then compare it with the official requirements.
Can I present an insurance document written only in Arabic?
The official rule requires the document in English or Georgian. Ask your insurer for the appropriate version before travelling; the language of a guide does not change the required document language.
If I buy after arrival, am I insured immediately?
Not under the GPI programme described here: when you buy while already in Georgia, cover starts 24 hours after purchase, within the policy dates. Events before cover starts are not covered retrospectively.
Is telephone assistance available in Arabic?
We do not promise Arabic-language service from the insurer or clinic. Ask about the language of assistance before buying and keep the assistance number shown in your policy.
