Mandatory insurance for entry to Georgia
Since 1 January 2026, tourists entering Georgia must have health and accident insurance. The policy must meet the requirements of Decree No. 602. The key conditions are below.

Who the requirement applies to
The requirement applies to incoming tourists. Certain groups are exempt, including diplomatic visa holders and drivers engaged in international transport. See Article 1 of the decree for the full list.
Who can issue a policy
A policy may be issued by a Georgian or foreign company authorised to provide health and accident insurance. Georgia must be listed as a covered territory in the policy.
Prepare your policy for border checks
Check the traveller’s details and the dates from arrival to departure. Save the policy on your phone for offline access or bring a printed copy: patrol police may check it on entry.

If you buy before entering Georgia, cover starts after you cross the border, within the policy dates. If you buy while already in Georgia, cover starts 24 hours after purchase, within the policy dates.
GPI travel insurance includes ambulance services, emergency outpatient and inpatient care, emergency dental care, medical evacuation and repatriation, subject to the contract. The GPIH-A plan has a total sum insured of 100,000 GEL and a deductible of 100 GEL. Individual services have separate limits and exclusions.
Call GPI on +995 32 2 505 111 to arrange assistance. In a life-threatening emergency, call 112. If you pay for treatment yourself, keep the medical documents and receipts. The contract requires reimbursement documents to be submitted within 30 days.
You need a new policy for the next period. A policy bought in Georgia has a 24-hour waiting period. Do not assume that cover will continue without a gap; agree the start of the new period with GPI in advance.
Visit Georgia offers policies for travellers up to and including age 85. Above age 75, the contract limits assistance to the consequences of accidents. If the traveller is exactly 75, confirm the terms with GPI before paying: the age boundary is worded differently in the contract text and its table.
